Right now I call Charlotte, North Carolina home, but I am originally from Rochester, New York. My passion for news started during my freshman year of high school. My English teacher loved my writing style in the papers I submitted. While doing a career project he suggested I should pursue journalism.

I started leaning more towards broadcast news because of my passion for motorsports. If it has wheels and a motor, I will watch it on television or attend the event.

I started my career in May 2012, one week after I graduated college from Niagara University in Niagara Falls, NY. I packed up my car and moved down south to Bowling Green, Kentucky to become a multimedia journalist at WBKO-TV, the ABC affiliate.

As a motorsports fan, Bowling Green was a great place to work because it's home to the National Corvette Museum. I extensively covered (and broke the story) about the museum building a 3-mile road course racing facility and I was the first reporter inside the Corvette Assembly Plant after being closed for a year to prepare for the new C7 Stingray. I've also lost count on the amount of NHRA events I covered at the nearby Beech Bend Raceway Park.

After spending more than a year in Bowling Green I made the move to Springfield, Illinois to work at WICS-TV, the ABC affiliate. Again, this is a great place to work if you love motorsports. The ARCA Racing Series makes a yearly stop at the state fair. In August 2013, I volunteered to work the weekend shift so I could cover the race. It was a long 13 hour day, but I loved every minute of it. You can check out the story here.

So far, the greatest and most exciting opportunity has been in Charlotte, North Carolina. I am a general news reporter at FOX 46 Charlotte, but I also cover motorsports. Charlotte is the home base of NASCAR and many of the teams. It's pretty easy to find NASCAR stories that also fit in to a general news brand. Due to my wealth of motorsports knowledge and contacts, many of my motorsports stories are exclusive to the station (like this one).

The most exciting time comes in May when NASCAR makes a stop at Charlotte Motor Speedway for the All-Star Race and Coca-Cola 600. In 2016, I was at the track for FOX 46 for 7 of the 10 race event days. You can see some of my coverage from that extended race weekend here.

Motorsports and news reporting are my passion. I am currently looking to make the move to a career in motorsports digital media or reporting. I am also open to continuing my general news reporting career at a station that values solid journalism and believes in resources.

I am always looking to meet new people and fellow motorsports fans. Feel free to drop me an e-mail anytime at brettbaldeck@yahoo.com with any comments, questions or just to talk motorsports.
Thank you so much for stopping by!
